It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of P S Pretty Chick -- more fondly remembered as "Random".
Monday morning June 28, 2010 at 6 am John found Random down and stuck next to the fence with her feet up in the air. He was getting ready to leave to go to work. He woke me up and we went out and immediately I gave her a Banamine Shot to help relieve the pain. We continued to take turns walking her until a little after 7 am. When she was no better we called the Tennessee Equine Hospital and Dr. Jess Delisle came out. She got here in good time and went to work as soon as she jumped out of the truck.
After working with Random for about 15 or so minutes it was determined she needed to go to the vet clinic. Luckily I had her owner's truck here at the house and I immediately hooked up to my trailer and the effort of Dr. Jess, John and I had her on that trailer in less than 10 minutes. Random was sedated to ease the pain while traveling. It takes about 45 minutes to get to the vet clinic and we headed out. Once at the clinic she started showing signs of pain again and she was given more pain medication while hooked up to the IV's. They wanted her to have the fluids for a few hours to see if it would dislodge the blockage. Jennifer showed up and we all listened to the evaluation and to the treatment process.
A little after 1 pm Dr. Jess called to say that Random was not better and that Jennifer had authorized surgery and that Random was being prepped. Unfortunately sometime around 3 pm Dr. Jess phoned and Random had 32 feet of blockage in her lower intestine and that Jennifer had authorized her to be put down. It is the right decision and Random did not suffer.
Random taught lessons here at DD Mini Farm and so many children and adults learned to ride on her. She was sweet with the most beautiful blue eyes.
Her spirit lives on in her three year old colt "Miscelenous" whom is a near clone of Random. He has just been started under saddle and is proving to be as wonderful as his mother.
Jennifer loved Random so much that when she went lame and could no longer jump she searched around and found a full sister. We all know how horses can be different as knight and day even with the same parents. Random was white with brown spots and her full sister "Nessi" is Black with a blaze and stockings.
Random's son "Miscellaneous" looks very much like Random. He does not have as much brown as she did.
